Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Right, lets crack on. You’ll be surprised how many people have been diagnosed with an IBD or have undergone surgery for an ostomy- in the UK 21,000 people a year undergo stoma surgery, there are estimated 300,000 people diagnosed with either Crohns Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

There is currently no known cure for Crohns and Colitis, even surgery to removed part of your bowel is not a cure, but it can alleviate symptoms, helping you lead a more ‘normal’ life.

Some people can suffer psychologically as well as physically. Anxiety and depression being the main culprits along with fatigue and pain affecting people physically. These symptoms can be treated medically but we think a lot of people would rather not be taking numerous pills a day, that’s where the outdoors comes in! Research has proven the time spent outdoors can greatly benefit anyone struggling with anxiety and depression. It doesn’t have to be a route march up a mountain, it can be a 5 minute walk around the block a short wander to the local shops.
